FAQs

What is the best age to see an orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children see an orthodontist by age 7. However, for some patients, it may be best to start treatment once more permanent teeth come in. That’s why we offer complimentary orthodontic screenings to young patients who may not be ready to start treatment so we can help you decide the most opportune time to begin your child’s treatment. It’s never too late to start orthodontic treatment. Adults can benefit too!

How long does orthodontic treatment usually take?

The length of treatment depends on the complexity of your case. Most treatments range from 12 to 24 months, but Dr. Marsh will provide a more accurate timeline during your consultation.

Are braces or clear aligners better for me?

Both options are effective. Braces are great for complex cases, while clear aligners are a discreet alternative for mild to moderate adjustments. Dr. Marsh and our team will help you decide what treatment option is best for your smile goals.

Do I need a referral from my dentist to see an orthodontist?

No referral is necessary! You can schedule a consultation directly with Marsh Orthodontics to discuss your needs.

Will orthodontic treatment be painful?

You may feel some discomfort when braces or aligners are first applied or after adjustments, but this is temporary and manageable with over-the-counter pain relievers, orthodontic wax, and eating soft foods.

What foods should I avoid with braces?

Sticky, chewy, and hard foods like gum, caramel, popcorn, and nuts can damage braces. Opt for softer options to keep your treatment on track.

How much does orthodontic treatment cost?

Costs vary depending on the treatment type and complexity. We offer flexible payment plans and accept most insurance to make it easier for families to start treatment.

How often will I need to visit the orthodontist during treatment?

Braces patients typically visit every 6-8 weeks for adjustments and to ensure treatment is progressing as planned. Clear aligner patients typically come in every 8 weeks.
